Tattoo Aftercare Guide
Holden Ink & Piercing
Congratulations on your new tattoo! Proper aftercare is essential for safe healing and long-term quality. Please follow the instructions below carefully to ensure the best results for your new ink.
Traditional Bandage Aftercare
Leave the Bandage On
Your artist has applied a sterile bandage to protect your tattoo. Leave it on for at least 45 minutes (or as instructed by your artist) to allow the skin to begin healing and reduce the risk of infection.
Wash Your Hands
Always wash your hands with mild, fragrance-free antibacterial soap before touching your tattoo.
Gently Clean the Tattoo
After removing the bandage, gently wash the tattoo using lukewarm water and a fragrance-free antibacterial soap.
Do not scrub
Do not use washcloths, loofahs, or sponges
Pat dry with a clean paper towel or towel.
Let It Breathe
Allow the tattoo to air dry for 20–30 minutes before applying any aftercare product.
Apply Aftercare Lotion
Apply a thin layer of unscented, dye-free lotion.
Do not over-apply. Massage gently with clean hands to keep the tattoo moisturized.
Avoid Picking or Scratching
Do not pick, scratch, or peel scabs or flaking skin. This can cause scarring and ink loss.
Keep It Clean & Dry
Avoid soaking the tattoo.
No swimming
No baths
No hot tubs or saunas
for at least 2 weeks.
🚿 Showers are fine.
Protect from Sunlight
Avoid sun exposure while healing. Once fully healed, apply sunscreen to prevent fading.
Second Skin (Saniderm / Tegaderm) Aftercare
Initial Application
A medical-grade breathable film was applied by your artist.
Leave it on for 24 hours up to 5 days, depending on instructions
Plasma and ink buildup under the film is normal
Removing the Bandage
Remove slowly under warm running water.
Peel the film back and away from the skin, not upward, to reduce irritation.
Clean the Tattoo
Wash gently with fragrance-free antibacterial soap and lukewarm water.
Pat dry and allow the tattoo to air dry completely.
Switch to Traditional Aftercare
Once the second skin is removed, continue healing using the traditional lotion method:
Apply a thin layer of unscented lotion 2–3 times per day
Additional Healing Tips
Wear loose, breathable clothing to avoid irritation
Follow your artist’s specific advice, especially for placement or style
Watch for infection: mild redness and swelling are normal. Seek medical care if you notice excessive redness, pus, fever, or severe pain
Be patient: healing typically takes 2–4 weeks
